Back in April our ward was taken out of the Queen Creek South Stake and put back into the Queen Creek Stake (which we had been in about 5 years ago..our ward kind of flip flops around Ü) The Queen Creek Stake was planning something AMAZING called Moroni's Quest for all youth in the stake ages 12 and up. This equaled about 800 youth plus 400 adults up in Heber for 4 days watching re-enactments of Book of Mormon stories. It was quite the production!! Nothing was spared in making this event something the youth would always remember and that would make their testimony unshakeable. From the 3 hour testimony meeting we had in our ward the Sunday after we got home...all from youth getting up to share their experiences...I think the goal was accomplished!!
Here's a quick run down of some of the highlights and then I'll attach some links to an article and slide shows at the bottom.

The youth were divided up into tribes with a couple serving as a tribal leader. Here is Abby's tribe...The Ites of the Roundtable. Our old Bishop and his wife ~ the Carpenter's ~ were her leaders. Abby's crush also happened to be in the group. I told her, "See, Heavenly Father is mindful of you!" Ü

My cousin's husband, Shay Tyler, played Nephi!!
The Tree of Life
The leaders from our ward, Tyler and I included, were part of the great and spacious building trying to lead people astray. Ü
WARS!! Complete with swords and shields. Ü
King Benjamin
King Noah
Abinadi

The youth all got a special Book of Mormon with quotes and tabs and reflection questions based on the reenactments they were seeing. They also got this special cover for their book which they bound themselves. Mason Wilkins and Zach Chlarson from our ward are in the picture above.
After each reenactment the tribes would break off into reflection time and discuss what was seen. Here is Tyler leading a reflection for our adult leaders.
Now this is what its all about!!
Brad Thurson from our ward, who barely had turned 12, during a reflection.
Alma and the sons of Mosiah
Another of my cousin's husbands, Brad Welchman, was a son of Mosiah.
Alma and Amulek

~ or as we know him Brother Dawson...our Young Men's president~
"If all men were like Captain Moroni..."
The Armies of Helaman was one of my favorite parts!!
All boys ages 14 & 15 were the stripling warriors.
They were given a special head band to set them apart and a letter to read written by their mothers.
As we sang Armies of Helaman and As Sisters in Zion, our modern day stripling warriors marched in. These were the graduated seniors in the stake. Those who already had their mission calls held a flag with the name of their mission on it.
Then they marched off to war...
SO COOL!!!

Saturday morning about 2am the youth were woken with sounds of destruction. Thunder, lightning, wind, animal noises, screaming. The leaders were clued into what was going on and we led the youth in the dark to the reenactment area. We listened to the sounds of destruction for quite a while and then all was silent and still. After awhile we heard a still small voice say "This is my beloved son, hear him." The youth turned and there was the Savior. 3 Nephi 11 was reenacted with the Savior going to each youth one by one and hugging them and loving them. That's 800 youth!! It took about 4 hours from start to finish. The look on his face and the look on the youth's faces as he embraced them is something I will never forget. Due to the sacredness of the event no pictures were shared. The man who portrayed the Savior was Nathan Mitchell...an LDS actor who plays Joseph Smith in the Prophet of the Restoration movie as well as Peter in the Bible Videos on lds.org...and he just happens to be in our stake.

...and then delivering them to Joseph Smith
WOW!! What an adventure!! I'm so glad our ward got to be apart of this experience. I have no doubt our ward was moved into this stake at this time because there were youth in our ward who needed this.

Abby wasn't so sure she wanted to come to Moroni's Quest. Being outside in the dirt and the sun all day is not exactly her favorite and her allergies did act up quite a bit...but she says she did have a good experience and is glad she went. Yay!!
Andy and Alex missed the cut off by 12 days!! I am bummed they were not able to come. I really think they would have enjoyed it and learned so much. Luckily they say they will be doing Moroni's Quest again in 6 years so hopefully they'll get to go then.
They had fun pretending they were Nephites...
...and playing with the swords and shields we were able to bring home. Ü
Oh...and let me just say a couple of words about the food...
COMPLETELY ORGANIZED AND AMAZING!! Ü
