Gotta love December and all the different activities it brings!!
The month started off with Abby's Christmas Choir concert.
Abby went from a HUMONGUS choir at the Queen Creek ALA campus of just 7th grade girls...to this. This is the Jr. High/High School choir COMBINED at the new Ironwood ALA campus. They worked on 3 songs all semester...that's it. After seeing the size of the choir I wondered for the 1st time if moving Abby over to Ironwood was the right choice. Oh well. Maybe now she's more of a Big Fish in a Small Pond kind of thing instead of the other way around. Ü They still did great and she still loves choir so that's what matters. I do think its cool they have official choir concert dresses now. So pretty!! Ü
| Thursday, December 3rd ~ Abby's choir director is Mr. Brines |
She borrowed some pearls from Grandma Ü
Thankful for good friends who came to support her
| Natalie DeVore, McKenzie & Audrey Kent |
The next night, December 4th, we went to ALA San Tan Elementary's production of The Lion King Kids. We were taking a little break from plays at the time...plus my boys were more interested in doing after school sports...so we weren't involved in this. After seeing it though I was kind of bummed we weren't. If was AMAZINGLY FABULOUS!!! The kids had quite a few friends in it and it was super fun to go see. Going to see a play also helped Ben pass off a Tiger Cub requirement...win win!! Ü
My friend Rachel (above) is the art teacher at ALA and was very involved with the props and costumes. She had the best time doing it. Her 3 girls were also in the play. One of her girls wasn't around for the picture so Meagan Kent posed in her place. Ü
Andy and Alex posing with their friends Robert who played Simba, Max who played all kinds of different animals, and Gavin who played Muffasah. Ben got to be in the picture too. Ü It sounds like doing plays is going to become a new thing at ALA. YAY!!
The next day, December 5th, the town of Queen Creek had their annual holiday parade.
And Ben was in it with his Cub Scout Pack!!

Waiting for the parade to start
There he is!!!
Tiger Cubs need to have an adult with them at all activities so Tyler is Ben's Tiger Cub buddy. I love they can do this together!! Tyler said he and Ben did most of the painting on the the Tiger. Ü
Tyler got to walk in the parade too. Can you see him. Ü
After the parade they got to go play in the snow. It was such a WARM day...we weren't quite dressed for snow. But they had fun for a few minutes. Ü
Two days later, December 7th, was the kids piano recital. All 4 kids did a solo piece and a duet piece. I take more videos then pictures at the recitals but I did snag a couple.
McKenzie and Abby did a duet to Deck the Halls.
(The twins did a fun duet together and I was Ben's duet buddy Ü)
Alex has to always go and show off by playing the Charlie Brown theme song after every recital. He also apparently starts off every lesson playing it. When the song came on the radio over Christmas our piano teacher's daughter said, "Mom listen! Alex is on the radio!" Ü
There was a surprise visit at the end by Santa himself!!
Alex is hiding behind Andy...stinker!!

We love Sister DeVore!!!...
...and all she does for the kids!! They are coming so far in their piano skills!!

We saw Santa again at our ward Christmas breakfast on December 12th
Getting Ready for Christmas!!
The kitties LOVED our tree...sometimes a little too much Ü
Hi Chloe!!
A fun end of the night treat.
Tanner liked playing with our nutcrackers.
Here he said, "Mommy, I'm playing David and Goliath." Ü
A couple of the kids got a pretty nasty cold mid December. Cough, sore throat, fever, bad headache. Ben missed 3 days of school and Alex missed a whole week!! Tanner liked to pretend he was Alex a lot. Whatever keeps him still for a minute. Ü
December 15th ~ School Christmas Concert
1st & 2nd grade sang "Hanukah O Hanukah" and "Where Are You Christmas"
Will it ever stop amazing me how huge my kids are??
6th grade sang a Winter Wonderland medley and "Last Christmas"
Andy is to the right of the middle...no Alex :(
We zoomed from the concert straight for the church for the boys' Court of Honor. Andy earned his Tenderfoot. Alex would have too if he wasn't home sick :(

Here's a picture of Ben...who's on his way to pack night...and the robot he had to make for his recycling unit at school...and the guys who helped him. Ü Ben had to write about how the robot helped others...so he decided his robot was a video game winning robot. You type a code from the robot's numbers and that unlocks the secret to win any video game. Ü
Last day of the Flag Football unit in after school sports. Alex was still out sick. :(
Ben's got the ball!!
Run Andy! The little guys are catching up!! Ü
Coach Faber and Ben
~ Thanks for doing this program coach!! ~
Ben and Meagan being good helpers Ü
On Tanner's last day of preschool before winter break Mrs. Claus visited his class. She passed out some fun things!! He loves his "Jamie 'Lucky' Kitty Cat".
He's still loving school and learning lots!!
(guess who cuts the pieces for most of these projects...)
This boy was SO ready for winter break.
Ü His look just screams pre-teen to me. Ü
Christmas Sunday
Abby, Tyler, and I participated in our ward's choir presentation that day. We sang 3 songs ~ Candlelight Carol, O Holy Night, and Hark the Harold Angels Sing. Abby has loved wearing her fancy choir dress to all these special performances. She also wore it when her and Tyler participated in the stake choir concert on December 13th (Tyler had a solo in that one!! ~ Good King Wenceslas). The dress has now been banned until the next choir concert. Ü
4 Happy Kids
1 Not So Happy Kid
That Sunday Abby also earned her 1st 2 ribbons for Personal Progress...one for Knowledge and one for Individual Worth. Ü
Going to see the Mesa Temple lights was extra special this year. My mom's sister, Jerrilyn Wilcken, and her family were invited to be the musical performers for the night of December 21st. She and her husband have 11 children and all but 1 are married now...most with several children of their own.
We got to the temple early and got front row seats!!
We brought lots of blankets to keep warm!! Pretty Girls!!
Tanner thought he was the star of the show!
We had plenty of time to walk around the visitors center and see the lights...
They had several new exhibits in the visitors center that were fun to check out
God's Plan for His Family is my kids favorite. We have to do that every time we come in!!
Watching these little video clips is also a fave
We kind of split up during the lights...so here's my group Ü
Grandma Pam is amazing and brought hot chocolate and donuts to enjoy during the performance
And here they are!!
Aunt Jerrilyn, Uncle John, 8 of the 11 children...spouses...and some of the older grandchildren
My Aunt Marsha, my mom's other sister, was the pianist!!
Anna Alder (the Wilcken's oldest child, Christi's, daughter) played the flute for one of the numbers.
My cousin Emily, Wilcken kid #4, was the director
The cute little Wilcken's sang in one number
It was a special night Ü
The Wornica's are sure special to us. They have adopted our family and helped me with the kids during sacrament meeting the last 3 1/2 years that Tyler has been Bishop. They have the kids over to their house to play and are just so good to us. Thanks for everything Lonnie and Karen. The cheese balls were a fun Christmas surprise. Ü
~ Christmas Eve!! ~
Chloe got her Christmas present on Christmas Eve ~ a new scratching post/hang out spot and a pretty pink princess collar. She likes them!! Ü
We tried really hard in December to get Mike and Spike adopted. They spent some time in the habitat at Petco to get some publicity. Ü And it worked!!...for Mike (the one with the Santa hat). He was adopted on the morning of Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas Mike! Your forever family was the perfect present for you!!
Spike got to come back home with us for Christmas. Ü
Christmas Eve at Grandma's house included decorating sugar cookies for Santa...
dipping pretzels...
making rice krispy reindeer...
playing the Left and Right Game...
and hearing the Nativity Story.
Christmas this year was all about surprises, love, and feeling VERY VERY BLESSED.
(presents were even hidden in the tree!!)
Rollerblades for everyone!!
Merry Christmas Spike ~ happy to be home and playing in the wrapping paper. Ü
Collages of pics from both our house and Grandma's house...cause we're spoiled like that. Ü
Yumminess!!
And here was the biggest surprise of all!! Ben just looked at our bedroom window...and this was in our backyard!! Thank you Santa! Ü
Cute boy playing with his new flying helicopter man
All this outside fun made Tyler decide it was about time to put up the basketball hoop we'd been given a few months ago...
SCORE!!
Other Christmas day highlights...
I made these light sabers and bows and arrows at a Santa's Workshop Enrichment activity at church.
Go Me!!
A Christmas visit to Grandma Hall
~ she's holding the brass bucket she used as a little girl to carry water ~
We helped Grandma pick some Christmas oranges
What a special Christmas this was!! More so than we could have ever imagined.
After Christmas fun included going on our first family roller blade outing...
Tyler tried his skates on and couldn't feel his feet after a few minutes. Sorry Big Foot...no skates for you!! He just helped Tanner instead. Ü
The kids were naturals...I was not!!
wearing their new Sunday outfits...
Andy
going to see this...
~ December 28th ~
Grandma Pam made us a deal...she would send us to see Star Wars if we took Grandpa Dave with us Ü
After the movie we used our Olive Garden gift card from Christmas
(Tanner stayed with Grandma during the movie...but joined us for lunch Ü)
playing with new toys...
and old ones from last Christmas that never got put together!!
AND THAT'S NOT ALL!!!
We've still got a birthday to talk about!!
~December 29th ~
decorations made by Abby Ü
He is so funny! He had definite expectations for his birthday that were not met.
Here he is grumpy in his streamers because when he came downstairs that morning Andy said, "Happy Birthday Tanner!!" Tanner said, "You're not supposed to say Happy Birthday...you're supposed to say 'SURPRISE'!! He also asked several times, "Where are my friends? When are my friends coming for my party and cake and presents?" Woops!! Sorry Tanner...no friend party this year.
At least he was happy with his birthday muffin and had fun going out on his skates again.
He kept saying he wanted 2 blue doggies for his birthday. Grandma Pam tried her best to find some...but when she couldn't... she just made some!! And a tree for them to play by. Ü
He was super excited about his soccer net. Luckily he got an extra soccer ball because the one that came with the net he stabbed all over trying to blow it up with the ball pump one morning before anyone was up. Ü
Best big boy present ever!!
We have a tradition that when the kids turn 4 they get to go to a pizza place for dinner. Abby went to Chuck E Cheese, Andy, Alex, and Ben went to Peter Piper Pizza, and now it was Tanner's turn!!
If you remember, Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm were not really Tanner's favorites.
But he LOVED seeing Chuck E Cheese and riding the rides here. They were right up his alley. Ü
Get your Game on!!
JACKPOT!!!
You got enough Tootsie Rolls Alex? Ü
Fun Times!!
AND THERE'S MORE!!!
Tanner wanted quesadillas for his birthday dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's...
LOVE YOU BIRTHDAY BOY!!!
He was such a brave boy at his well check. Last year he decided doctor's were not his favorite and he cried during the whole appointment. This year on the drive over he was pretty nervous but when we got there he said, "I don't want to do it...but I will and I'll be good." And he was!!! Even getting 4 shots! The nurse said he was the bravest 4 year old she'd ever seen. He wowed Dr. DaSilva with his sparkling personality. Ü
