We Have a 4 Month Old

Benjamin will be 4 months old tomorrow. He is the happiest little boy. I can't get enough of him. He's putting weight on his legs and looks like he may be sitting up on his own soon. He coos and sings himself to sleep. He loves to laugh at daddy and his brothers and sister. I can make him laugh sometimes too but not like they do. He's staring to drool everywhere, maybe teething?, and can reach and grasp at things. His 4 month check up is on January 8th so I will post his measurements then. I love to compare pictures so here is a picture of all of us around 4 months old.

So who do I look like?

Pictures Galore

Blogging to me is more of a form of scrapbooking to me than journaling. I'm not all into sharing my feelings quite yet ~ maybe one day it will turn into that. But for now that means PICTURES (and a video or 2 for the grandmas - which I always seem to take sideways, sorry!).....
Here are Andy and Alex with Tommy the Talking Snowman. Except at our house he doesn't talk because Tyler isn't into things that make noise every time you walk by them. This picture isn't that great but I probably won't get another one. Last year for some reason they were all about gathering rocks for Tommy. Every time we went outside we had to get a rock for Tommy. All of December and January I would take the rocks off the porch while they weren't looking and one of the boys would always say, "Mommy why did you take Tommy's rocks away?!?" I had forgotten all about the rocks but the first thing Alex said this year when Tommy came out of the box was, "Yay, it's Tommy. We'll need to go get him some rocks."

Gotta love boys in khaki pants.

Can you see Alex's black tooth there on the top. About 2 weeks ago Alex smacked his mouth on the chair in front of him during Primary while singing Head Shoulders Knees and Toes. His gum was quite torn up and it knocked his tooth loose alittle. Just in the last few days the tooth has been turning gray. I think we'll be calling the dentist this week.

It's been COLD! Well, in the 50's which is cold for here. Our neighbor down the street gave Andy and Alex these cute winter hats which we got to wear to go to the park this week.

Bundled Up Boy

Ben is standing up ~ and wearing 6-9 month clothes the little stinker. Ü

Andy and Alex sat for about 45 minutes today just looking at the presents under the tree. They didn't dare touch them because they knew if they did the presents would be gone. Instead they read the name tags and talked about what might be inside. They've made a deal - Andy is going to share all his presents with Alex and Alex is going to share all his presents with Andy. Abby is going to share all of her presents too - she just doesn't know it yet.

All of these pictures, except the one of Abby, were taken this week. And these weren't even all of them. I love taking pictures!!

Friends Forever

Remember when I posted this picture from my friend Melinda's wedding...
Well guess what Melanie (bridesmaid on the right) just forwarded me... Look at how cute we are!!! Apparently this was our last day of kindergarten. Yes, I've always been the tall one. And how funny - I'm on the left in both pictures. Melinda was obviously the bride in the above picture and is on the right in this one. These are my oldest friends. Kindergarten was the only year we were in school together as I went to a different elementary school after that year. We saw each other on playdates, church, and girl scouts and all went our seperate ways during Jr. High. We rarely see each other anymore but keep in touch when we can. We'll always be BFF!
I've also been able to visit with some other friends recently from my elementary school years. This is Emily Lawson. We've been friends since 3rd grade. We used to blend our names together so I was Carrily and she was Emica. Ü We were both in love with Nathan Serrata but, of course, he liked her and not me. Ü We both LOVED New Kids on the Block. She was going to marry Jordan and I was going to marry Jon ~ that way we could be sisters. A few weeks ago she was visiting the Mesa area and made time to come visit me.
Amber Carey (middle) and I became friends in 1st grade because her last name is my first name. That is very cool to a 6 year old. We would swing on the swings and sing Madonna songs at the top of our lungs. She taught me how to do tons of tricks on the monkey bars. We were awesome! The 1st time I went on Boomerang at Knotts Berry Farm was with her. She had been on the ride so many times she could count down to when we were going to drop. It scared me to death!! Ü I was able to attend her bridal shower this summer.

It amazes me how I can go for forever without talking to these girls but when we finally get together its like we were never apart. Love you guys!!!

Abby's on Vacation

Off they go...

Abby has been at Grandma Pam and Grandpa Dave's house this last week. It is a tradition that started last year - she gets to spend a week in CA during Christmas break. The one on one time is very good for her. Her Grandma Hall is over there for a visit too so she is just surrounded by grandparents. She's gone shopping with Grandma and gotten new shoes and a new coat, she got to go to Knotts Berry Farm for a Christmas botique and saw Snoopy on Ice, she's gotten to watch Playhouse Disney every day ( we don't have cable so this is a big treat!), she can play on the computer whenever she wants, and Grandma helped her pass off a bunch of Brownie Try-It Badges. She has seen Santa 3 times since she's been over there (at the mall, at Knotts and at their ward acticity)! That makes a total of 5 times seeing Santa this season (she used to hate the guy!). Grandma Pam has been reading Boxcar Children to her before she goes to bed. That was one of grandma's favorite books when she was a girl so I know that its fun for her to share it with Abby. Abby comes home tomorrow and my parents will spend Christmas week with us.

Look at my cute girl!

This will boggle your mind. I know it did mine!

The year is 1908.
One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1908 :

The average life expectancy was 47 years.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles Of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average wage in 1908 was 22 cents per hour.
The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year .
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, A dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME .
Ninety percent of all doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which Were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard. '
Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The A American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas , Nevada, was only 30!!!!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea Hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write.
Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, 'Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health.'
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE ! U.S.A. !

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years. IT STAGGERS THE MIND!!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas Card Attempts

I am not sending out Christmas cards this year. I feel so guilty!!! But financially and time wise it would be riduculous for me to do so. I am sending an email out with our Christmas picture attached. We tried hard to get the perfect one but never quite got it. Here are some of our attempts....

AND THE WINNER IS.....

Merry Christmas!

Letters to Santa

The kids were able to write their letters to Santa the other night at our ward Christmas party. Here's what they came up with...

Dear Santa,
For Christmas this year I'd like...

Abby ~ magic wand (so you could wave it over your plate at dinner time and whatever food you want would appear), a Barbie car that's real (one of those big ones you could ride), a Barbie guitar, a pogo stick, and a unicorn

Andy ~ magic wand, pogo stick, another baby brother

Alex ~ a flashlight, electricity, a thingy that goes up and down (a pogo stick), and best of all a pony

Well, it looks like my kids aren't going to get a thing they want for Christmas ~ unless anyone knows where I can find a pogo stick for cheap. I have no idea where that one came from. I guess we can handle getting Alex his flashlight. Ü

Thanksgiving Recap

Thanksgiving this year was at Grandma Hall's house. My parents were in town. Later in the day my extended family who live in town came to Grandma's for dessert. It was a relaxing day with family, yummy food, and great pictures. Ü I am so thankful for all that my Heavenly Father has given me. I take so much for granted. We are so very blessed.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving my Grandpa's side of the family gathers at a park in Mesa for the Hall Family Reunion. Out of the 7 siblings only 3 are left Ben, Wayne, and Harold (my grandpa's fraternal twin). I thought this was a nice picture of the 3 of them.At the Hall Reunion
I told my mom that next year I would hold Thanksgiving at my house and I would cook the turkey. I'm scared all ready. Ü
