Abby's 2nd year going to Camp Cruz through the Arthritis Foundation
She LOVES it!!
Daddy dropped her off at the arthritis foundation office to wait for the bus
on Tuesday morning, June 3rd
The camp director, Allie, was so great at posting daily updates and pictures. It was so nice to know what the kids were up to. We didn't see too many pictures of Abby, which made us wonder if she was participating in anything!! But she assured us she was and when we looked through the pictures when she got home she would say, "Oh, when they took this picture I was standing right next to that person." Ü Abby did better this year at getting pictures of herself doing the activities as well. So here is Camp Crazy 2014...day by day. Ü

DAY 1
Camp Cruz Kicked off with a Bang! Campers got off the bus to
have tacos for lunch (clearly... it WAS after all Taco Tuesday) and immediately
went out to field to play water games. You see, this year, the Monopoly Man
stole my dog Truffle Shuffle, and I enlisted the help of Professor Plum (Clue)
and Princess Lolly (Candyland) to help her get Truff Back! Campers had to
"train" to learn how to beat the Monopoly Man and keep him from his
plot of turning everyone into silver tokens that play monopoly!
After lunch it was
camp tours and a large Camp Game of MESSY twister. Don't worry parents, it was finger paint... washed right off! I even got into the mix.
The night ended with
dinner (fried chicken), a campfire and counselor entertainment night. Live from
Camp Cruz... IT'S TUESDAY NIGHT!!! Board Member and Camp Nurse Denise McGinley
even got in on the action!
Excited for a great
Day Two!

Day 2
Camp Cruz had it's first full day yesterday! Campers went to rotations
including sports and games, Minigolf, nature, and more! I was lucky enough to
hang out with Group H playing with the parachute!
After Morning Rotations Campers were tasked
with an EGG DROP! Each cabin group was given paper, a little masking tape and
one balloon. They had to create something that would protect their egg falling
from about 15 feet! If they wanted more supplies campers had to sing for it and
come with a creative way to ask the judges for more tape, extra balloons, or
even shaving cream to cushion the fall! Two eggs survived at the end of the
event. Group B and Group F!
After lunch (pork &
mashed potatoes), siesta and more rotations, campers played one of their
favorite traditions at camp: Predator. Half of our counselors went missing last
night, and it was the campers' job to find them! Armed with glow necklaces they
set out in the dark hoping to find the most counselors to win points for their
team! Shh. I haven't announced it yet... but the Colonel Mustards won Predator
last night!
Tomorrow is the longest day of camp.. called
Duro night. They need the endurance to stay up late and have the best, messiest
night ever!!! Looking forward to another amazing day at Camp Cruz.

Day 3
Welcome to Duro NIGHT!!!!
Campers had a busy day filled with activities. I got to hang out with some of
the older guys while they played kickball, Group E while they made awesome
music with Meghan, our music therapist, and Arts and Crafts with Group H! After
rotations campers played the newest game to Camp Cruz: Protect the Queen.
Four campers were selected to be kings or
queens and had to stand (with crown of course) in the middle of a baby pool and
try not to get hit with mud. Campers had to turn in different colored frisbees
to score points for their team, and every time their queen was hit with mud,
points were taken away. Needless to say, it was a messy but FUN game.
Last night was of course the infamous duro
night. A carnival filled with games and pie assassins as well as the GRUDGE
MATCH! Every year I say, I'll only go in if the "grudge" submitted is
"epic." We had a good one so I even got involved. The winning
grudges: Cabin B vs. Cabin H for the prank war they have begun (The boys tied
all the girls bunks together), Ashton vs. Rian because "Rian just keeps
poking me and I just want to end this." The nurses even got in on the
action as we pitted Denise against Kelsey (Denise won), Skyler vs. two cabins
because they wouldn't stop hitting him with mud during the aforementioned game,
and Counselor Victoria vs Camper Victoria (because well...why not?) and then
Renee (Assistant Camp Director) and myself against all the new campers (they
won... hardcore).
After grudges campers watched the Secret Life
of Walter Mitty! Don't worry, this morning they got to SLEEP IN! PHEW. Til tomorrow...

Abby actually went FISHING!!...
 |
| This girl HATES fishing...but she did it!!...and she said it was kind of FUN |
...and she CAUGHT something!!!
These next 2 pictures have a funny story...
I saw this picture on the computer. I said to the kids, "Oh look, its Abby!!"

| staying away from the pie assassias |
By the time Andy looked up I was already on the next picture...which was this one. In a very shocked voice Andy said, "That's Abby?!?!?!" We got a good laugh out of that. Ü
 |
| This guy got some pie!! |
They do some many messy games up at camp. I don't blame Abby for not participating in some of them...like The Grudge Match. This does not look fun to me at all!!
No Abby in these...just posting for memories. Ü
Andy and Alex on the other hand think this would be AWESOME!!

Day 4
Day Four at Camp Cruz was
quite a busy one! For the first time in three years, our equestrian director
finally got me to go horseback riding. I was lucky enough to go with Group B.
It was a beautiful afternoon! Campers also learned about nature, cooked healthy
"pizza peppers" with Renee, and learned a flashmob dance at music!
At free time, campers also got to enjoy a spa
day to help them get ready for the all important dance. After activities we had
the cookout and took the camp photo! It was a beautiful day and who wouldn't
love a good burger and baked beans?
Immediately after the cookout, Camp Cruz held
its very first CAMPER NIGHT! It was the first time we hosted an open mic night
and allowed campers to perform, sing, tell a joke, tell a story, dance, whatever
they wanted to share. I must say, I was BEAMING with pride at some of the
campers that chose to come up to the stage and share. It was FANTASTIC night
and will definitely be something we continue to do.
After camper night was the illustrious dance.
Campers boogied until way too late at night and dined on some of the healthy
snacks they made in the cooking rotation.
Everyone is a little tired today but well
worth it! Today is the last full day at camp. Tonight is the Council Fire/Say
So where campers reflect on their week at camp. Photos from today and tomorrow
might be posted a few days late.

I wasn't too surprised to see that Abby participated in the talent show. Proud of her!!!

She sang "Let it Go"

No pictures from the dance they had Friday night...but wanted to note that Abby packed a dress especially for the occasion. And she said she actually stayed inside on the dance floor this year instead of hiding outside like she did last year. Ü
Day 5
HORSE BACK RIDING!!
Pretty much the thing Abby is most excited about at camp. Ü
