Congratulations Josh & Lauren!!

Our oldest nephew, Josh Gruwell, got married yesterday in the Salt Lake Temple. We so wished we could have been there but with the trip to Utah we just took and the kids in school it wasn't possible. We are so happy for him and his new wife Lauren. Here are some pictures I snagged off of facebook. Ü

Announcement

On August 3rd we had an ultrasound. We found out we are having another...BOY!!

I guess there is no denying it - I keep thinking maybe they were wrong - but it's pretty obvious huh. We were all hoping for a girl but apparently we are meant to have a lot of missionaries. Abby is disappointed but she took the news really well. She looked at the screen and in disbelief said, "A boy?" I was expecting tears and fits but once again she hasn't given us any. Today she even said, "You know I'm glad it's a boy because if it was a girl it would be like Meagan (my friend's daughter who is over quite often) - she would always be getting in my room and wanting to play with my stuff and I'd have to tell her no and then she's cry." I didn't mention that while Ben doesn't do that, this little brother still might. Ben keeps saying, "The baby is a boy and I'm a boy."

A funny story - shortly after we told the kids we were having another baby and would be finding out in a couple of months if it was a brother or sister, Alex, who is the most excited for this whole baby thing, asked "How are we going to tell if it is a girl or a boy?" I told him they would take a picture of the baby and then I said, "And what do boys have that girls don't have?" Immediately, without missing a beat, he said, "Long eyelashes!!"

I am due January 3rd, although according to his measurements my due date is posting at December 28th. I'll take that. I'm not a very happy pregnant woman although this week things are finally starting to perk up for me.

Amazingly we don't have a name picked out. His middle name will be Carl after Tyler's dad. We've had the name Tanner Carl picked out for a boy for awhile but for some reason it's not feeling right. Abby's vote is Harry, Andy wants Fred and Alex suggested Bob. We won't be going with any of those so suggestions are welcome!!

Can't wait to meet this little guy!!

First Week of School

We survived the first week of school at our brand new school American Leadership Academy. I had no problems with Circle Cross Ranch and loved getting to know and working with the staff there. My heart still twinges out of loyalty to that school whenever I drive by it. But this new charter school (new here, but there are other campuses in Arizona & Utah) was built right down the street from us. It even has a high school if we continue on that long. This was such a hard decision for me as I have been pro public school this whole time but something about ALA just felt right. We are impressed with the leadership skills they will be taught here which conincide with the Covey 7 Habits of Highly Evective People. There will also be an emphasis on patriotism. The faculty and staff here seem awesome!! We are excited for the accelerated program which we think will be great for the boys. I also feel this school will help Abby with her personal and social skills. She also just needed a change from CCR where she didn't really have good friends and complained about being teased. So far the first week of ALA was great! They do have uniforms. Not sure how I feel about that exactly but they sure look cute and make getting dressed in the morning easy. I'll just miss dressing them cute for school pictures and things.

Here they are in front of the school at Meet the Teacher. Abby's 4th grade teacher is Miss Coleman (who she loves!) and Andy and Alex are in the same 2nd grade class with Miss McFarlane.

Go ALA!!

Utah Trip Day 6

Thursday, July 7th

This was our 3rd and last day using the City Pass. We were all pretty exhausted by this day. We woke Ben up and had breakfast and then while we were getting him dressed for the day he said, "Mommy I'm sleepy. Can I have rest time?" It was about 9am in the morning!! Sorry Ben, we had lots more fun planned!! In our morning prayers we asked for a apecial blessing of patience and then headed to...

This is the Place

Ben kept asking where we were going. We would say This is the Place. Ben would say, "Where? Where is the place? I don't see it."

This is the Place is in rememberance of the Mormon pioneers coming into the Utah Valley. As they came over the mountains Brigham Young stood up in his wagon and said, "This is the right place, drive on." They have built a little pioneer village at this spot.

The names of the pioneer men, women, and children who were in the first pioneer company. Tyler and I both have ancester's in this company.

Here is a grandpa of mine...Andrew Gibbons
Tyler is related to Lorenzo Dow Young and his son Lorenzo S. Young. Lorenzo Dow Young is Brigham Young's brother which makes Brigham Young an uncle. The Bowery was the first structure built in the valley. It was used as a shelter until the Satints could build their homes and aslo as a meetinghouse and for social events.

A replica of a church building in St. George The John Gardner cabin is a one room cabin where a Father, Mother and 10 children lived. Can you imagine?? The children would sleep outside in the summer and in the winter the girls would sleep on the floor and the boys would sleep up in the loft.
Most of the pioneers in the village are volunteers.

I don't understand why some Saints had these one bedroom cabins while Heber C. Kimball (1st house) and Brigham Yound (2nd house) had these nice big houses!

Going to School
Did you know the early pioneers created their own alphabet? It was called the Deseret Alphabet and was used to teach the emmigrants from Europe how to read and write English. They used it for 40 years!

Here is Abby writing her name in the Deseret Alphabet

After lunch we headed here...

Tyler's cousin Arianne and her 3 kids, Anika, Cambree, and JJ, met us there Alex and Cambree
After getting a drink at this cool drinking fountain Alex said, "Umm, lion spit!"

Saying Good-bye

Here was how Ben felt at the end of the day while we were waiting for Abby to buy something from the gift shop

We met Grandma and Grandpa Gibson for dinner at Sweet Tomato. It was a great ending to the day.

Andy built his own sundae

This picture is fuzzy but I love everyone's faces. The favorite thing for the kids to do is give Grandpa "hot fives".
