More Birthdays

Andy and Alex turned 5 years old on Saturday, September 12th.
Andrew Edward AllenAlexander Eugene AllenHow we picked their names...
Tyler and I pick names for our kids very quickly. Infact we already have several girl and boy names picked out if we are to have more children. When we were pregnant with Abby our 2 names were Abigail Anne and Benjamin Wallace. (Abigail is after a cute little girl Tyler baptized on his mission and Anne is my middle name; Benjamin came from the fact that we were reading in Mosiah in the Book of Mormon about King Benjamin at the time we found out we were pregnant and Wallace is Tyler's middle name and his Grandpa Gibson's first name). When we got pregnant the 2nd time around our 2 names were Benjamin Wallace (we really liked that name - obviously!) and Rebecca Lyn (after the country song by Bryan White - Tyler and I met in country dance class and this was the song that got me liking country music; I'm also named after a song so Tyler would like one of our kids named after a song too). Then we found out we were having TWINS (at 18 weeks along - what a shocker!!). Twin boys. We thought about naming them Benajmin Wallace and Tanner Carl (our next boy name in mind, Carl is Tyler's dad's middle name) but we really wanted twinny names. Not too twinny mind you, but names that went together. We couldn't think of anything to go along with Benjamin. I remember we happened to be out on a date shortly after we found out we were having twins. We went to one of our favortie places for dinner - Olive Garden. We had a little bit of wait time and I remember sitting outside the restaraunt just going over names. Somehow we came up with Andrew and Alexander - Andy and Alex - cute twinny names. We decided we wanted them to have the same initials and luckily they have 2 grandpas with E names - Edward is my dad's middle name and Eugene is Tyler's Grandpa Gibson's middle name (so we have 2 kids named after Grandpa Gibson!). Later that same night I suddenly said, "Tyler - we already have an Abby. Now we'll have 3 A names." That so wasn't in the plan. But we'd taken so long to choose their names (a whole half hour!) and we really like them so they stuck. There you have it - the story of their names.
A week or so before their birthday I asked the boys seperately what they wanted for their birthday presents. Andy wanted his own box of Cinnamon Toast Cruch, apple seeds to grow an apple tree in our backyard, and a birthday decoration to hang from the light over our kitchen table. Alex wanted his own box of Lucky Charms, a new Pooh Bear, and a Transformer.
They got their cereal...
...and Andy got his apple seeds. He also got his birthday decoration but apparently it wasn't quite what he had in mind and he wasn't too impressed with it.They got their transformers (several big and little transformers from friends, Mom and Dad, and Grandma and Grandpa Allen)but no new Pooh Bear for Alex this time. His white Pooh Bear is his favorite anyway.
We had our first official birthday party this year. In the past for both Abby and the boys' birthdays we have maybe invited 1 or 2 friends or cousins to McDonalds or Peter Piper Pizza or over for cake and ice cream. Mainly we do things with Grandmas and Grandpas. But I'd never done a big invite lots of friends over kind of thing. I was actutally very proud of myself that I pulled it off (with the help from Tyler and my mom of course). We had 6 little boys (7 if you count a little brother) over from school and church. It was a very low key party but still lots of fun.
We decorated cupcakes
They had a Transfomer Pinatawhich never broke open by hitting it so we tried pulling the little strings on the back (what's with the strings anyway? What happend to good ol' fashioned pinatas?) They each grabbed a string and pulled but the strings broke off! Tyler just had to rip the thing open. After the pinata the boys opened their presents and then all the kids played. Yay!!After the party we went to a water park that we hadn't tried out before. The kids had so much fun!!Ben was not very fond of the lazy river. Then it was off to Grandma Pam and Grandpa Dave's new house (more on that in another post) for dinner and more presents. Special Meat (my kids love this stuff!)

My little boys are now big boys with Big Boy toys. Not only do we have transformers but we also have Iron Men guys, Bionicle Men by the names of Stronius, Torouk, Gelu, and Berix

a 209 piece Spongebob Lego set (as well as 2 other lego sets of over 100 pieces each - Mommy has much anxiety over these things and all of their pieces)and Bakugans (which I had never even heard of until now) HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY & ALEX!!!

Great post Carrie!  I must apologize, as I have still not sent Ben’s gift card to you.  I finally got around to getting his card, so now I can actually get it mailed.  Sorry!  Your kids are getting so big!  Sending love your way!!
Have a great day!   Aldine Allen
