Pioneer Day

Friday night I decided that we should do something for Pioneer Day. We celelbrate Pioneer Day on July 24th to commenorate the day the Saints arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. My friend Kathy and I pulled a fun activity together for our families and also Kathy's nieces and nephew.
The kids did a pioneer maze and hidden pictures from the Friend Magazine

We had breaded chicken, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, green beans, Indian Fry bread, and lemonade for dinner. It was DeLiCiOuS!!!

Tyler told the kids a bunch of pioneer stories. Some were about our ancestors.

Then we pulled our wagons to the park. Of course we had to sing pioneer songs on the way.

"Pioneer children sang as they walked..."

At the park we played some pioneer games. One of those was stick pull - an all time classic!

~ Leap Frog ~

The kids tried to catch popcorn in the their mouth.

Yes, we cheated and used microwave popcorn - it was faster!! Ü
Then we came back and had peach cobbler, apple crisp, apple cake, and ice cream.

Kathy had a rag doll for each of the kids.

I am so glad that we took the time to remember the pioneers. Their stories strenghten my testimony so much. After all the struggles and hardships they went through for the gospel - how could it not be true? I want to pass that "legacy of faith" onto my children.

Wow! You absolutely amaze me!! I am so proud of you that you planned and carried out your pioneer activity! That is exactly what needs to be done. We must not allow our children to forget their heritage, because it is so important. I spoke in Sacrament meeting yesterday and shared one of my pioneer ancestor’s stories. For Christmas this year I will be helping you share these things with your children. I am so excited for you to see the gift I am making. It isn’t anything big, but I hope everyone will appreciate it and have fun with it. But, you have to wait until Christmas to know what it is. Thank you again for creating such a fun, memorable, day for your children. I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
