Utah Trip Day 3

July 4th

Here is where we were headed for a hike I'm pretty sure I hiked up to the Y once while I was at BYU. I remember it being hard. And I was right. It was HARD!!
Starting Out

This picture was actually taken on the way back down the mountain. You come to this little post about a minute after starting the hike. When we got here I already thought I was going to DIE!Alex, Andy, and Ben on the trailThe boys went on ahead and Abby and I trudged along behind. The night before I told Tyler I wasn't sure how this hike was going to go. I'd been down sick and pregnant for the last 13 weeks (surpise for those of you who didn't know!!), I'd twisted my ankle the day before at the cemetary, I wasn't sure how Ben would do, and then there's Abby who complains about walking to the end of the street. We agreed we'd all just do the best we can and if some of us needed to stop earlier than others that was ok. That morning Tyler had told Abby to try hard, but if she felt like she couldn't make it that her and I could stop and wait for he and the boys to come back down. I thought ~ oh great; now she'll take 2 steps and say she's tired and want to stop. Actually, the exact opposite happened. She was so determined to make it. She kept saying, "Come on Mommy, we've got to prove daddy wrong!" We took lots and lots of breaks -lots and lots!! I probably needed the breaks more than she did. SO out of shape!!

Tyler and the boys almost there!!

Provo valley from the Y

Ben walked a lot of the way up but Tyler carried him all the way down. They were all surprised at how big the Y was.

We met Tyler and the boys on their way back down. I didn't think we could make it much farther but they told us we were close. This last hill was a doosy!!

We made it!!! Abby plopped down right next to the grafitti - nice - but I didn't have the heart to ask her to move. Ü

I'm so proud of her!! This was a major accomplishment for her since she still tires easily from her dermatomyositis (which is in remission but she has never gotten back to 100%). If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have made it. I'm pretty sure I would have given up on the way.

We were a good team - we really encouraged each other.

After our CrAzY adventure we met my old roomate Michelle at one of our favorite college hangouts ~ Brick Oven!!

Michelle and I ~ lots of fun memories with this girl

After lunch we drove around Provo. We saw our first little house which is right down the street from Brick Oven. We were the 2nd house in- the one where the green hose is hanging.

We drove up Squaw Peak

and to Bridal Veil Falls

the Provo River

We also did some temple hopping ~ which I plan on doing a seperate post about. Ben got a good nap with all that driving around.

That evening we went back to Matt and Gwen's for a yummy BBQ.

Ben and their dog Jesse ~ the kids LOVED Jesse.Grandma and Grandpa came to dinner too! I looved how the weather was nice enough to eat outside!! Oh, and I was so happy that Abby put her red, white, and blue flower clip in all by herself without me forcing her too!! Ü
The kids played in the hot tub

and played some table tennis

Andy challenged Grandpa to a game. I was shocked when he said ok! Remember - he's 90!!

Uncle Matt taught the kids how to play Batchi

Grandma and Grandpa watching everyone play

Ben stayed home with Daddy while the rest of us went and watched fireworks. Ben was scared of the firewords the neighbors were setting off in the street so we didn't think he'd do to well with the big booming ones. And of course, the sprinklers came on where we were waiting and we had to make a dash for it. Ü

Happy 4th!

love looking at all the great pictures of your trip. :)

i saw on this one that ben was afraid of the fireworks. my abbey has always had sensory issues & even the movies in the movie theater were too loud for her. i bought her children's sized drummer headphones that i keep in my car & stick in my purse when we go places. they work wonders for her!

something like the headphones might help ben overcome his fear of the fireworks & be able to enjoy them with everyone next time. :)
