Thursday, July 7th
This was our 3rd and last day using the City Pass. We were all pretty exhausted by this day. We woke Ben up and had breakfast and then while we were getting him dressed for the day he said, "Mommy I'm sleepy. Can I have rest time?" It was about 9am in the morning!! Sorry Ben, we had lots more fun planned!! In our morning prayers we asked for a apecial blessing of patience and then headed to...
This is the Place
Ben kept asking where we were going. We would say This is the Place. Ben would say, "Where? Where is the place? I don't see it."
This is the Place is in rememberance of the Mormon pioneers coming into the Utah Valley. As they came over the mountains Brigham Young stood up in his wagon and said, "This is the right place, drive on." They have built a little pioneer village at this spot.
The names of the pioneer men, women, and children who were in the first pioneer company. Tyler and I both have ancester's in this company.
Here is a grandpa of mine...Andrew Gibbons
Tyler is related to Lorenzo Dow Young and his son Lorenzo S. Young. Lorenzo Dow Young is Brigham Young's brother which makes Brigham Young an uncle.

The Bowery was the first structure built in the valley. It was used as a shelter until the Satints could build their homes and aslo as a meetinghouse and for social events.

The John Gardner cabin is a one room cabin where a Father, Mother and 10 children lived. Can you imagine?? The children would sleep outside in the summer and in the winter the girls would sleep on the floor and the boys would sleep up in the loft.
Most of the pioneers in the village are volunteers.

I don't understand why some Saints had these one bedroom cabins while Heber C. Kimball (1st house) and Brigham Yound (2nd house) had these nice big houses!

Did you know the early pioneers created their own alphabet? It was called the Deseret Alphabet and was used to teach the emmigrants from Europe how to read and write English. They used it for 40 years!

Oh Carrie, how I wish I knew you came here! We live 1/2 mile from the zoo, and would love to see you next time you come up to UT! It would be neat - I can't believe how long it has been. Your family looks beautiful, and congrats on a new pregnancy!
Dang! That last comment was from me, Laura Aldrich Theodosis - I was signed in under my husband's name and didn't realize it!
